The 5 Best Podcasts for Twenty-Somethings

Fall is a great time for learning and creating new routines.  This fall I’m combining both as I explore the world of podcasts. As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter I have been finding myself drawn to podcasts. If you haven’t already become devoted to podcasts you soon will. It’s amazing the amount of learning you can fit into everyday tasks. I listen to podcasts when I’m in my car, or out for a run. Listening doesn’t take time away from other things – but it does expand my perspective and expose me to so many new people and ideas.

Below you will find a list of my five favorite podcasts. Each brings something unique to the table, and they all support personnel development and growth. From finding your purpose to achieving your goals – these hosts deliver amazing lessons while keeping it real.

Pursuit with Purpose with Melyssa Griffin

This podcast just started in June 2017, so you aren’t too far behind! After building a successful seven figure online business Melyssa found herself feeling out of alignment with her true purpose. Making more money wasn’t bringing her more happiness so she decided to make a drastic change.

Melyssa started the Pursuit with Purpose podcast and now channels her energy into internal goals. She challenges the listener to seek out things they truly want instead of working on goals that demonstrate to the world how “successful” they are.

She speaks about a great variety of topics – everything from success stories from her own students to cultivating the relationships in your life. Melyssa’s zen approach to life will reach you through her podcasts and she is a pleasure to listen to.

The Life School Podcast with Brooke Castillo

Brooke is a Master Life Coach who has built a multi-million dollar coaching business. Initially I thought this podcast would be specifically for life coaches, but so many of her lessons are relatable (and consumable) for everyone. She offers concrete tips on self–coaching and has great discussions around topics so many people live with such as overeating, overdrinking, and overworking.

She focuses on managing your mind, emotions and results – and does so in a way that always picks me up. I finish these podcasts feeling energized and motivated. Brook is exceptional at delivering deep messages without dragging you down.  One of my favorite episodes is #181: Proactivation (the opposite of procrastination!).

Something to be aware of with this podcast – Brooke runs The Life Coach School, and has a subscription service called “Scholars” which she does mention regularly on the podcast. I don’t have an associate with either of these programs, and feel you can learn a tremendous amount from this podcast without purchasing her services.

Achieve Your Goals with Hal Elrod

This is one of the first podcasts I ever started listening to. It has a huge following, much of which is built upon the success of Hal Elrod’s best selling book, The Miracle Morning. Hal’s process is all about creating a routine that helps you gain goal clarity and focus your energy into what matters most. Jon Berghoff now hosts the podcast as Hal battles cancer.

This is definitely a motivational podcast. The intro even states it challenges you to wake up to your full potential and live your dreams. Sessions range from interviews with big names in the business world, to recordings from seminars and Q & A sessions.

One of my favorite episodes is episode 166: The 5 – Minute Epic Evening Ritual to Re-Succeed with James Colburn. I love listening to podcasts where you walk away with concrete actions you can apply to your life, and this was definitely one of those episodes.

Glambition Radio – Ali Brown

Glambition Radio is a great podcast for listeners looking for a combination of entrepreneurial knowhow and girl power. Ali Brown was dubbed the “Entrepreneurial Guru for Women” by Business News Daily and her episodes don’t disappoint. Ali is a business coach who faced her share of challenges on her entrepreneurial journey. She now focuses on helping women thrive as entrepreneurs, and her podcast is a great resource for anyone thinking of starting their own creative or entrepreneurial adventures.

Ali’s episodes are often hilarious and always real. She has interviewed everyone from the founder of Mr and Mrs Smith, a luxury online travel site, to Alex Friedman, who co-founded the first ever organic tampon subscription service. Each episodes takes you through through the process of launching these successful brands, and Ali asks a lot of tough questions along the way.

Not all of her guests are dedicated to strictly female markets, she also interviews Farnoosh Torabi – the host of my next favorite podcast, So Money.

So Money – Farnoosh Torabi

So Money is a different kind of money podcast.  It was rated the #1 Female Podcast of 2017 by Entrepreneur Magazine. It doesn’t cover how to make a budget, or save money on daily living – but it does provide real life examples of individuals who are making big moves in money games, and living successful and fulfilled lives.

Host Farnoosh is a money guru who speaks to an audience of young adults. She was a financial reporter who has built a tremendous community of young professionals who want to understand how money works as well as explore their relationships with money. Farnoosh releases a new podcast daily – and has some amazing guests.  Melyssa Griffin (who’s podcast Pursuit with Purpose made this list!) was featured in episode 630.

As you listen to these podcasts actively think about what changes you can make in your own life from what you learn. Make sure to carry forward the motivation and inspiration you draw from each episode into an action you can practice in your life. As always, assign a time frame to the action so you know when you need to complete it for lasting change.
